Security posture

Enforced at settlement

Two rules override everything. Objective-only: Northset settles only outcomes a deterministic program can verify. No arbitration, no subjective scoring, no LLM judges, no reputation. Trust-minimized: settlement is on-chain. Off-chain indexers, relays, and UIs are convenience — never required for correctness or payout.

How USDC flows through the Northset escrow contract

Buyer

posts the task + locks the payment

the payment (USDC) → escrow contract

Worker

bonds USDC at activation

bond (USDC) → escrow contract

Escrow contract

holds the payment + bond in USDC

fee: 1%

min bond: 10 USDC

on pass: reward − 1% fee

Worker (paid)

on pass: bond returned

Worker (bond back)

on pass: fee

Northset

collects the fee

on timeout: payment + bond → buyer

Buyer (timeout)

reclaim + slash

The payment and bond sit in the contract. On a passing proof, the worker is paid, the bond is returned, and the 1% fee goes to Northset. On timeout, the buyer reclaims both.

The contracts are deliberately small and source-verified on Arbiscan. An independent external audit is a gate we've set for ourselves before scale — until then, task sizes stay small by design.

The record

What shipped, when

  1. Self-serve settlement opens for the cost-figures check — a buyer and worker run the whole lifecycle from their own wallets, on desktop or mobile. Code-change settlement stays team-run for now.

  2. The canonical receipt lands: a code-change task settles end to end — the check runs, the proof verifies on-chain, and the payout releases in USDC. Run by the Northset team, with real funds.

  3. First code-change settlement on Arbitrum One — the full lifecycle closes with the proof verified on-chain. Run by the Northset team; the run that proved the receipt shape.

  4. Northset goes live on Arbitrum One: the escrow contract, the verifier registry, and the cost-figures check — all deployed and source-verified on Arbiscan.

How this page stays honest

Every number, address, and date on this page is pinned to a line range in a frozen source document and locked to a stored fingerprint. If a cited source drifts from its fingerprint, the publishing check fails — the page cannot silently disagree with its sources.
